I am looking for some recommendations for roasted beans for lattes and caps. I have looked over the roasters thread on CG and HB and there are certainly a lot to choose from. What are some actual suggestions for a blend that will hold its chocolate and carmel notes in a cap and latte?

Try Counter Culture Coffee's Rustico or Metropolis' Redline espresso blend. YMMV, but my wife and her friends like slightly darker roast with their milk-based drinks. I guess years of drinking $tarbucks ruined their taste buds. For ice latte or heavy milk-based drinks, Redbird's Blackbird blend is a light french roast and it can punch through the thick milk quite nicely. It is still let you taste hint of chocolate note (not as much as other two I've listed). Redbird might be the another good choice if you want a subtle chocolate and caramel note, but the actual coffee taste though milk-based drink is much milder than Blackbird.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I have some handlebar espresso blend from compass roasting on order and will give that a try. I have still yet to try Counter Culture's blends...thanks again for the suggestions.

This week I've really been enjoying FTO Klatch House Espresso in my morning latte. It definitely has chocolate and caramel notes that hold up to the milk. They called it a medium roast but it looks pretty dark to me, but that could just be a characteristic of the beans they use in the blend.

I actually prefer Metropolis' Spice Island to its Redline for latte. Spice Island is very sweet and fruity, but I let it run longer - about 35 seconds, the resulting bitterness effectively punches through the milk while the sweetness gives it a nice, multi-layered flavor profile.
