I just thought about this: "...without a machine for another 2 weeks...at least". Y I K E S ! ! ! No home brew for 2 weeks! How can it be endured? I think that I am speaking for all CoffeeGeeks everywhere in saying that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.
Doreen, I admire your enthusiasm, but you've asked virtually the same question(s) now in at least three separate places . . .
There is no BEST bean . . . no BEST grinder.
What grinder works best for one person may not be what works best for another . . . just as a minivan may be the perfect car for one, while someone else may need the power and hauling capacity of a 3/4 ton pickup, and someone else may need the tiny size and high gas milage of a Smart car -- there is no "one size fits all." A grinder needs to fit your usage pattern. You need to tell us what that is . . .
What bean is "best" is the same thing: just as some may prefer a filet mignon over a rib-eye, or a T-bone steak over a sirloin, some people prefer their espresso to be a single origin (SO) bean, while others prefer a blend of different beans as the "ultimate" espresso. And just as some prefer their steak to be rare, others medium, and some well done -- or anywhere in between -- some prefer lighter roasts, others prefer medium, or dark roasts. The problem here, Doreen, is that only YOU have your taste buds in your mouth. You don't have mine, and I don't have yours . . . what tastes great to me may not be your favorite: you may prefer milk chocolate, for instance, while I prefer dark chocolate; you may prefer "Chunky Monkey" and I may prefer "Cherry Garcia" and so on . . .
Alas...the "free" beans have been used up for some weeks now. My appologies to those of you who missed out! If you like what your fellow Geeks are saying about our Blend #5 and Len's F.T.O. feel free to order a pound or 2 knowing that they will ship to you the same day they are roasted and will arrive at your door ready to "rock-n-roll".
