Hey Gary, Try Bluebottle if at all possible. Looks like Paradise is your closest option. This site is temporary but check out: my espresso map. This shows Paradise, Bluebottle and Sweet Maria's closest to Concord.
If you find any other bean source that's Coffee Geek worthy, please let me know.

Hey Wayne,
What's the setup of the Berkeley farmers market? Does Bluebottle setup a brew kiosk, similar to the tent at the Ferry Building farmers market? Do you the know location of Temescal farmers market (street, landmarks)?
Brokendoor espresso (downtown San Jose) now sales a wide variety of BB beans.
Bluebottle's street presence is larger than I previously thought.

Hi all. I'm also in the East Bay and on the lookout for something other than Peets. I guess I'll try Pacific Bay as I drive down 680 everyday for work. I also get down to the South Bay once in a while so it sounds like I should seek out Barefoot? I was thinking of trying roasting and was going to try Sweet Maria's since it's local. Any thoughts? Can you pick up at Sweet Maria's?

I'm not Wayne, but . . . at the Berkeley Farmers Market, Blue Bottle brews cups of coffee from various blends, but no espresso. Saturdays only. (Never been to the weekday version, as I'm at work then.)
The Temescal Farmers Market is in the parking lot of the DMV office (5300 Claremont Ave.) in Oakland. Sunday only.

Hi I live in concord (east side of the SF bay area) and am looking for some recommendations on a good local roaster that I can frequent. I am almost out of beans and need to pick something up local while I wait for my order of black cat to get here.
Quick question: how long does it take your Black Cat to arrive? In other words, how soon after the roasting date does it arrive? I get my shipments from Espresso Vivace Roasteria using "regular" USPS Priority Mail 48 hours after roasting -- that is, I place the order on Monday, the coffee is roasted that day and I get it on Wednesday. I've been hesitant to get coffee from Intelligentsia or Counter Culture (to name but two) because of the long shipping time.
So, besides Blue Bottle Coffee in Oakland and Pacific Bay Coffee in Walnut Creek -- and Ritual Roasters and Graffeo, and Four Barrel Coffee (no website) in San Francisco, Ecco Caffè and Flying Goat Coffee Co. in Sonoma (yes, we're traveling far afield), Barefoot in Santa Clara and Verve Coffee Roasters in Santa Cruz -- the only other East Bay-based roasters that I can think of are Peet's (their roasting facility is at 1400 Park Ave. in Emeryville); Peerless (260 Oak St., Oakland); Mr. Espresso (696 Third St., Oakland -- coffee roaster runs on an oak fire rather than gas); McLaughlin Coffee (Emeryville); Kavanaugh Coffee Roasting Company (no website) in Berkeley . . . but no others that I know in the Concord area.

This cafe and roaster in Hayward is also interesting and good. The espresso served today was the Tres Amigos. It was fruity and sweet. The bagged beans have roast dates. To purchase, I did have to ask for fresher beans that were roasted four days ago, otherwise the bags at the counter were roasted about 12 days ago.
