I'm heading to Canada and need to have some beans meet me there since I won't have time to roast any when I arrive, and I'm out of beans to bring with me.

Who's roasting really good espresso beans in Canada and has decent shipping?  There's Intelligentsia of course, but if I can find someone in Canada to try that would be nice.  Artigiano doesn't give any info on their site about shipping or roast dates, so it makes me think they aren't really set up to roast and ship.

I've gone through the archives, but didn't find anything terribly helpful that was also current.

Thanks,
--Derek

Replying to myself...  Just remembered 49th Parallel.  Shot them an email to see about shipping cost.  I'm pretty out of the NA coffee loop.

You could try Just Us! in Nova Scotia. They have pretty decent espresso (a blend of Yirgacheffe, Bolivian and one other that I can't remember) and they ship at reasonable rates.

Canada is a giant place, you'll have to narrow down where you are going to be for any useful help.  Great beans on the west coast won't really help you in Montreal.  That being sad, if you plan it properly, you can have beans sent to where you are headed.  While it definitely isn't known as a coffee mecca, I get my beans from Deluca's in Winnipeg.  Their prices are great, they taste great and ship quickly.

...Did that Queen St. W location close down or move or what?  The lights were off the last few times I went by.  It used to be a pre-stop convienient to the clubs...which is good for me because I now have an excuse for the extra trip north to Manic ;) ...

Derek, like the last several posts have mentioned, Canadah is a great big place, eh!  I was on vacation overseas recentlty, and met a chap who said to me "you're from Canada?  I met a girl from there..do you know Debbie?"  I couldn't contain my laughter!  Long story short, it takes longer for me to drive to Ottawa than it does to Detroit of Buffalo...please specify a region or better yet, a city! It will help those who like to help, help you better.

Otherwise, just check here, and here.
And good luck!

Dude, I live in Winnipeg and the only reason I know what Deluca's espresso tastes like is because they gave me a kilo bag when I bought my Rocky/Silvia from them.  They where not horrible but where far form good. Great as cannon fodder for the learning curve.  If you are in Saskatchewan depending on where got to Museo in Sasakatoon or Agean Coast in Regina and get some 49th Parallel epic or organic espresso you won't be disappointed. If not then order direct from them.

As for the original post as he hasn't said where he is going yet here is a rough breakdown. 49th Parallel supplies a bunch of great cafes all over the country, there is also Transcend in Edmonton and Phil & Sebastian's in Calgary. As well Intelligentsia supplies a number of very good cafes across the country as well.

Sorry all.  CG didn't tell me there were replies to my thread.  I'm going to Fredericton.  There is a new roaster who's just opened in town that I completely forgot about until I woke up this morning.  Their espresso is apparently good at the bar, so I could do okay there.  I don't like Just Us! beans; at least until I left they've always been poor quality and difficult to find fresh.

Anyway, again I'm headed east coast; Fredericton.

Thanks,
--Derek

Hey Derek, are you from Fredericton (I am, originally)??
I can't remember if I read it here on the forums or not, but I -think- there is a shop towards the bottom of York St. in Fredericton that roasts their own stuff.

Here in Halifax we have Java Blend, which I really like.

Cheers
