Subject: Chucacabra by Wandering Goat

Anyone else tried this blend? I pulled a 1/2lb over the past few days, with great results.  It is a blend of Columbian (not sure of the varietal), Sumatra Gayo Mountain, and Ethiopian Harfuza (from the Harrar region, but a more interesting bean).  The shots were great: well balanced, a hint of acidity (probably lemon), some berry notes, a little watermelon, and overall very balanced between body and brightness. They recommended beans that were 7-8 days out from roasting (it is Eugene, quite humid and cool there).  I also brought 1/2lb of the Harfuza home, and we cupped it at Backporch (the local roaster here in Bend and best espresso locally) and were all impressed by it.  It isn't as "berry" as the typical Harrar.  The Chucacabra blend was a nice change from Hairbender, which has really been going in the direction of heavy body and chocolate/molasses notes, but isn't that well balanced.  I enjoy their espresso from time to time, but it is definitely nice to try a more energetic blend.

Check out Wandering Goat if you are ever in Eugene: they have free pulls from 4-7 on Fridays.  Their milk drinks were only so-so, and were being served too hot (like 155-165).  But, the espresso is great!  There is also a Stumptown place in Eugene (I think called Garys?), but the barista didn't seem to know what was going on, so I wouldn't recommend them.  My shot was over 2oz and was barely drinkable.
