Is there a list or forum on here somewhere that has rankings of favorite coffees? Where to buy, freshest? locales? stuff like that? I'm fairly new to the world of coffee, and would like to try different roasts? is that correct? Anyhow, all I know right now if gevalia, and starbucks. get the picture?

Thanks!

Browse around this forum and you'll find loads of feedback on various coffees and roasters. As for coffee ratings, they're really only helpful if your palate happens to jive with that of the reviewer. For my own exploratory purchases I make choices based on a combination of my own preferences in coffee taste profiles, the roasters' descriptions of their coffees, and the input from the many forum members who comment here on their experiences with various single origin coffees and blends.

If it's espresso blends you're seeking:

Since you're in North Carolina you should definitely check out Espresso Toscano and the other offerings from Counter Culture Coffee, based in Durham. They're one of the best, and right in your backyard. Freshness is one of the keys to good coffee and this will give you the ability to buy locally or get next-day delivery of freshly roasted beans for base shipping fees.

Leftist Espresso Blend from Gimme! Coffee in Ithaca, NY is my personal favorite and the source of the best shot I've ever tasted.

Black Cat from Intelligentsia in Chicago is a very popular blend that can be an espresso revelation. Their Kid-O blend also gets lots of kudos.

There are quite a few other roasters I haven't mentioned that are equally as impressive in producing beans for life-changing espresso. I'll leave it to other forum members to fill you in on those.

Enjoy exploring--you're gonna love it!

First you may wish to try looking in your yellow pages for local roasters.  You may find that to be a good venue to get fresh roasted beans.

You owe it to yourself to explore the astonishing range of coffees beyond espresso blends that CCC finds and brings to the U.S. Toscana Blend is only the tip of the iceberg.

A wonderful book was just published that describes the lengths Peter Guliano (and others) go to to source these coffees: God in a Cup by Michaele Weissman. I highly recommend it.
