Has anyone ever tried the coffee beans offered at Whole Foods or Fresh  Market? There are no local roasters located where I live and I was hoping to occasionally make a half way decent cup of espresso with their espresso blend. Also can anyone recommend any websites of roasters who are best at producing excellent blends while ensuring freshness upon arrival? The only place i've ordered from is Sweet Maria's. Thanks.

I used WF a while back and liked it, though primarily for press coffee.  I didn't have a decent espresso machine at the time and am not sure my recollections of their espresso roast are valid.  I did like the way they put the roast dates on the bins.  No place where I am now does that...

Alternatively, there are some posts here that talk about finding Black Cat at WF stores.  I haven't seen it at one personally, but the one I went to was a smaller store.

The Whole Foods near us also sells locally roasted Coffee. They have Barefoot Coffee Roasters and others from Santa Cruz, etc. they put it near the bread and cookies, etc. But of course, these are local roasters and mlunn01 is saying that he can't find any local roasters in Miami, FL. You might want to suggest a roaster to your Whole Foods and see if they can hook up and get it into the store, but of course, if the local population will not buy it, then I suppose it's not going to work out.

The WF here in Dublin Ohio roasts (and offers green) Allegro coffee in a three-pound air roaster. I think they do a good job! I've been able to get quite a few decent shots of the Del Canto espresso blend that they offer, which they roast to around a FC/FC+. Their prices are very reasonable when compared to a certain central Ohio coffee chain that, ahem, I used to work for (we'll just say that they take fancy with single origin "limited offerings" of dark roasts-- yikes!). They'll even do you a presspot or single-cup pourover-- pretty nice for a grocery store/market.

The WF near me roasts Allegro as well. Have you tried the Sierra Espresso. I asked the guy behind the counter and he said the beans are at most 5 days old, so they may be pretty fresh. I'll try their Del Canto blend. I didn't realize WF roasted on the spot. I will taste test a bunch of blends this weekend. Thanks.

Ok, this is just a shot in the dark, but have you tried your Costco? Our local Costco just sells th usual canned stuff, but the Costco in Reno, NV (30 miles from me) has a roaster there and when i was there last year, they had the hours when they were in to roast.
I have no idea how good the stuff is, but they did have a large tumbler roaster. One nice thing about Costco is if you don't like it, they'll always give a refund.

Just google, or check the internet for roasters in your area. I know Colonial is on NW 60th St, but I think they are wholesale, but wll sell if you buy 20lbs mim. I have tried FM and some is good, and some is not so good. Hard to tell the freshness. Might check out towns close to you also.

I picked up a half pound of the allegro decaf espresso blend beans from WF the other day and it's not bad.  Better than starbucks.  I'm waiting for green beans from SM to feed to my roaster as well as some decaf black cat to arrive in the mail and it will tide me over until then.

I tried some decaf from pacific bay (local microroaster) and didn't like it at all, although they had a pretty good regular blend that I did get.
