Personally, I backflush with water at the end of every session and use detergent once a week or after about 35 to 40 shots, depending on what comes first. In a commercial environment it's not unusual (or at least it shouldn't be) to backflush several times a day.

Oh sorry. I misspoke a little. What I meant to say, was I thought once a week may be a little over kill. When I was backflushing on a once of week basis I found the lever was starting to get a little sticky-rough. So I started on a twice of month routine. I am a single household user, so that may make a difference. Sorry for the confusion.
Ok, that makes sense. I've had the sticky lever problem right after flushing with detergent, but it usually goes away after to pull one shot post detergent. I pull about 20 shots a week, and if I go more than about 12 days without a detergent flush I can start to taste it. I backflush with water after every session.
