I am a teacher and sometimes I will brew a cup or two in my room. My students have more than once commented that my room smells like tuna. I didn't realize it at first, but now I can see what they mean. Has this happened to anyone else? Am I roasting something incorrectly?

You're not crazy IMO, and I doubt it's the sea air. ;)
I've noticed this before and posted about it elsewhere, though I thought the odor was more noticeable with a particular dark roast and with slightly stale, unbrewed coffee grounds. Back when I would drink this coffee--warning, potential TMI---I thought it made my urine smell like tuna as well. Sorry. ;0 Several years later I caught a whiff of whatever compound is responsible for the tuna effect when I opened a can of chicken breast packed in water (for lazy man's chicken salad). So, it's something meaty in a way I have trouble verbalizing.

I saw those articles while looking around the web. I can't figure out what I'm doing to get that smell. One person mentioned rancid oils being a possibility. I use a plastic melita single cup brewer. I wonder if that has something to do with it.
This has been with fresh roasted coffee. A couple of different types at different roast levels. I don't notice it at home so I guess it has to be the plastic cone, or maybe a combination of smells in my classroom. I teach science, so there are sometimes an interesting combinations of smells anyway.
