Hello everyone.
Every so often, when I'm visiting my relatives or seeing friends, I like to bring my Bialetti Mukka Express with me so I can make myself a cappuccino.
In the past, before I got into espresso, I would grind up roughly around 100 grams of coffee with a whirly blade grinder, chuck it in a baggie and take it with me since carrying around a electric grinder with me was a little impractical.
Now, I have this nice Mazzer sitting on my counter and it is dialed in for my espresso machine. My concern is, if I grind coffee for it, the grind will be too fine and it'll choke the Moka pot. Either that or there will be undesirable results.
So, I'm curious.. What kind of grind best works with a Moka pot? Is drip grind good enough or is that too coarse?
I'm thinking, instead of using the Mazzer to grind, I should just get a Hario Skerton and bring it with me, taking a baggie with a bunch of beans in it and grinding them as needed using a looser grind, maybe something a bit finer than drip but coarser than an espresso grind?

Well, more fine than drip but not as fine as espresso!
The pressure in a Moka pot is pretty low so you need to grind more coarse than for espresso but you do want to slow the flow of water down a little. How is that for a precise answer? Sorry I can't be more help, I do have a moka pot but it has been years since I have used it and I would have to play with it for a while to be more precise.

It's really whatever works best for you and your pot and how you're using it. I have used drip grind with success in the past so that's not out of the question. If you want a more official answer you could buy a can of Illy's Moka ground coffee. It's expensive ($18 for a can) and hard to find locally. I've only seen at for sale at Williams-Sonoma but you can mail order it through Amazon: Click Here (www.amazon.com)
