So I picked up my grinder and aeropress, ready to buy some coffee.

I had an intelligentsia doyo the other day at a coffee shop and it was amazing. I want to buy a few coffees so I can try a few and start to learn what I like.

Are there any great coffees that are a bit cheaper than the intelligentsia brand out there? I'm thinking of maybe picking up a Dazbog coffee as well as I like those quite a bit.

If you're looking for a really fine product from an artisan roaster - especially at a lower cost - consider some of the coffees from Deep Cello coffee.  I particularly like Nostromo for espresso, but have used several of their other blends and roasts for French press and Kone pour-over too.  The Deep Cello folks also provide a nice sampling offer so you can try out about 1/3 -1/2 pound very inexpensively.

Pardon this dumb question. If I'm using an Aeropress, I can't really make an espresso, so shouldn't I stick to non-espresso beans?

There are no "espresso beans" there are only coffee beans and different roasts, espresso is a method of making coffee and can use any roast level you choose. The darker the roast, the more the coffee tastes like the roast and less like the beans. Very dark roasts like "espresso" are basically charcoal and have little if any of the flavor of the beans left.

Ah I see. Thanks for the clarification...slowly learning.

I've been using cheap coffee to play with the Aeropress and different methods. It's definitely easy to use, just figuring out my taste buds and what I like the most.

And after a glimpse of home-barista, I definitely will need a large budget to get into the art of espresso making. Right now I'm sticking to good old coffee :)

I don't know if it's cheaper or not....but my favorite roaster is PARADISE ROASTERS!

$3 shipping and to you in 3 days!

More than the cheap shipping and fast service, I find their beans are consistently excellent and roasted perfectly.

Their Sumatra Danau Toba and Ethiopia Yirgacheffe ECX Top Lot are my favorites.

Of course, Sweet Maria's is great also.....I have a subscription and it's always exciting to see what 2 coffees I'll be getting in 2 weeks..  Haven't had a bad bag yet!

Definitely going to try Maria's. I hear great things.

My favorite so far was intelligentsia doyo. Trying to find more like that.

I've been ordering most of my coffee from Verve. They have free shipping, with blends from $14-$15 per 12oz and Single Origins around $17-$18. The Elida Estate Natural coffee they have is Amazing!

Jeez, too many options!

Marias roasted coffee is mostly sold out. She only has a small section, the other is green coffee which has to be roasted, am I correct?
