I think I'm getting there...I had to cool the bottom pot a bit, but it sucked every bit of water down. Switched to a lighter roast. :/ I still need to replace my old Zass, though.

It's funny...Really nothing different except different beans (I wondered about that...I read somewhere that dark roasts don't do as well in vacpots). It started drawing down, albeit slowly, as soon as I took it off the heat (I did turn the heat up just before all the water got sucked up). It looked like it was trying to stall, but picked up again when I put a damp *cool* washrag around the bottom pot. The rod rattled very slightly as the water finished getting sucked out of the grounds. Very clean brew!
I'm wanting to stick to a hand mill ( mainly because I'm still living 100 years in the past, I reckon)...new Zasses are crazy high, Harios haven't been very impressive in the reviews I've read, and am having a time trying to find a Kalita that's not in Japan or S. Korea. I may just have to rebuild the one I've. But that means no new toy.
