My coffee habit has been most definitely damaging my wallet. Even more so when I purchase $16-20/12oz beans while still not mastering my brew (V60).
But regardless, how do you guys do it? Do you buy in bulk and freeze left over beans? Where do you buy?
Pertaining to my situation -- where would some of you recommend to buy some great beans in NYC? I've been purchasing beans from Stumptown, Gimme!, Intelligentsia (from Third Rail), Blue Bottle once or twice
Fairway roasts fresh in-store. Almost everything is less than $12/lb and they usually have a few varieties that are less than $10/lb.
I'm not sure how Fairway compares to some of the "name brand" roasters you've been using, but I've enjoyed many of the coffees I've had from there. This afternoon I'm drinking their organic Bolivian.

i never really figured it out when i was buying 12-16oz bags. there wasnt anything i could do to prevent them from aging. i've never tried freezing personally. i know the espresso folks stand by their freezing, though.
now that i'm homeroasting, this issue is not as bad. i tend to roast about a half pound at a time and will usually always have fresh coffee.
if it matters, im using an airscape canister but i dont really think it's doing anything. though, it does look fancy and seems cool haha

after rising coffee prices last year and me spending $3000 on my coffee for a year I came to the conclusion the only way I was going to get the fresh coffee I was used to any cheaper was to roast my own. after buying a Behmor and a little practice,my roast taste almost as good as the coffee I was paying 18/20 for 12oz from CC,Intelly,Barefoot, ect. only $ 4/8 per lb roasting your own and always fresh,and green beans will store for over a year if done right
