I still don't know the answer but I can guess. First off I am not buying the story of a special micro grind. As I said in the other post chemistry was not my best subject but I don't recall any thing about grinding an insoluble substance fine enough to make it soluble. I think it is soluble coffee made with either the spray dry or freeze dry process. I think the difference is that they start with decent coffee rather than the cheap robusta in the store brand instant. Also they probably extract less coffee from the grounds than the folks who are making the real nasty stuff.
The result is still not good coffee, it is still just marginally drinkable.

The most I can really tell you guys is that it's partially a concentrated coffee and partially a micro-ground coffee. We are told that it's a concentrated coffee mixed with a micro-ground coffee to give it body.

Most of the time there will be a little bit in the bottom. Those particles are the micro-ground coffee that kind of brews so fast due to extremely high surface area. It's kind of like a french press, the best flavour comes out as it cools down.
However, being a Starbucks Barista myself, it really isn't that great. I absolutely hate selling this stuff and do not try and upsell it like we are asked to do. Some customers have great uses for it, and it's definitely better than the shit most offices offer for free and if you can't leave the office for some reason it's better than black syrupy shit.

I did the taste test. Instant versus Pikes Place??? beans. That bean is undrinkable and I would take instant over it any day it's that bad to me. But in testing I'm like, this bitter nasty coffee has got to be the instant. Nope it was Pikes Place. The instant was smoother and not as bitter and for my tastebuds the better choice.
I didn't want to believe it.
Oh, I did really enjoy the limited edition Ethiopian Sidamo Sundried they had. Picked a can up for $3 at Target and it was a lighter roast and full of berry flavor and were not burnt. Bought 4 more because they roasted them beans right.
