Subject: How to safely drain boiler before storing machine

Goodday,
I own a Silvia,

Is it necessary to drain the boiler completely when leaving the machine unused for 6 weeks?
I suppose it is, would not want to have bacterial growth in it,
but how to safely drain the boiler completely without damaging the heating elements?

Googled quite a bit to find a good answer but without luck so far.

any suggestions are most welcome.

Hi
For 6 weeks I would not worry.  If you were storing it for a year I would drain it because of freezing.  You won't get any bacteria in your machine if its been heated to brew temp.
If you want to drain the boiler, you heat the machine up to brew temp.  Take out all the tanks and trays.  Turn the steam switch on for 20 seconds.  Then turn off all the switches that were on and unplug the machine.  Take it outside and turn it upside down and open the steam valve with the wand pointed away from anything that can be hurt or damaged.  The small amount of pressure in the boiler will push out all the water in the boiler.  The most important thing is when you refill the boiler.  Make sure that the brew switch is on before you turn the power switch on.  Then use the power switch for the pump switch so if you don't get water flowing, you turn off the heating element so it won't burn up, while your trying to figure out what is wrong.
