Subject: Technivorm 8 Cup vs Bonavita for Brewing Half a Pot?

Due to a store closure I can get the Technivorm KBTS 8 cup brewer with the thermal carafe for about the same price as the Bonavita. I am also looking for the best automatic drip brewer regardless of price.

I will usually be brewing 350-500 ml (4 cups) most of the time. The Technivorm 8 cup model that I am looking at still has the full drip/half drip/stop button on the filter cone. Does that help with brewing half a pot compared to the Bonavita? One of the reviews on this site criticized the Bonavita's ability to brew half a pot (but not a full pot).

Does the Bonavita have a significantly better water dispersion head pattern? I will NOT be mixing or stirring the grinds or doing an initial blooming of the grinds but will "set it and forget it".

Which is better as a low maintenance automatic brewer? I will not be fussing over each brew. If it came to that then I would stick to my French Press (which I anticipate to continue to use alternately with the automatic brewer).

Does either brewer shine when brewing half a pot?

I have the Technivorm KBT741 which has the 3 position switch on the filter.  It is pretty  much designed to help with 1/2 pot extraction issues.  I would recommend the TV over the Bonavita.  It is a higher quality machine and has a 6 year manufacturers warranty.

To address the dispersion question I think the bonavita has a wider dispersion pattern; whether that equates to it being better is up for debate.   Some may say yes; others may say that you will not notice any side by side improvement in taste due to such.

All in all the TV will be the better choice, side by side comparison at same cost which you have the luxury of taking advantage of.

Any chance you can share where one can get a brewer from this shop that's closing?  Am also looking for a drip machine!  Thanks!
