I am very confused.
My scale has both grams and ounces. Should I be weighing both my coffee and water in ounces or grams?
The problem is that the scale considers an ounce to be about 28.5 grams by weight. But a fluid ounce, which may be a volume related measure is 29.56 grams. I don't think I should be mixing and matching. What is best to use?

Even if the scale does not do a perfect conversion, do both weights in the same system, the ratio is what you are after.
The actual system of measurement is only needed when you are trying to convey information to someone else, if you were weighing in sheets of notebook paper, it does not matter, the ratio is the ratio so if it is 2 sheets of paper worth of coffee solve the math problem and get the sheets of paper worth of water that you need!
