Hi, all,

A friend of mine runs an antique shop and got a nice-looking old Sunbeam vacuum brewer, but he couldn't get the two halves apart. I was able to help by unhooking the thing that holds the filter-holder thing (sorry for all the technical terminology here) in place, but they still wouldn't budge, and I didn't want to force anything of course. I could turn one against the other, but they seem to be stuck fast together. I'm sure there's something obvious I've missed. Any wisdom?

Thanks,

John

If it is like mine (all metal, electric, chromed) the two rectangle handles between the upper and lower halves have to be pulled up towards the upper section to release it.

OK, thanks! Yes, it's the electric chrome kind. I'll have him try that.

When I was looking more into the one I bought a few months ago I read somewhere that the two halves can be EXTREMELY difficult to get apart if the gasket is old and dried out. Can't remember exactly what the writeup said but I remember something about potential damage to the pot if it's stuck and not removed carefully. I'll try and remember where I found the info about it.

Thanks, that looks as though it may be the problem. Wow, what a resource that web page is! I'll spend way too much time perusing all that info!
