We have a glass carafe Bonavita brewer and were getting very disappointing results. I home roast the beans, and they taste fine with an Aeropress, so I didn't feel that was the issue. We tried changing the grind (Maestro Plus grinder), but no matter how coarse we went the results seemed murky and overextracted. We finally tried an old #4 Melitta cone in place of the bluish cone that came with the machine, and the results are dramatically better. I'm not sure why-- when I filled both cones with water they drained at almost the same speed. Seemingly, the only difference is the placement of the hole on the cone.

Someone, somewhere here, mentioned their coffee wasn't very good, how filter basket drained SO they made the hole a little bigger---problem solved. I've been having trouble but think mine's due to temp being too high. Haven't had time to mess with it anymore, too busy BUT seriously thinking about getting a TV since quality control may be better ???

I've taken my Bonavita's water temp AGAIN using Celcius and it's over 96.  I understand bitter taste can appear over that temp. May it has a virus  LOL!
