Hi everyone. I am looking for a quality 10+ cup drip coffee maker. I have been home roasting for a month now and I do not think the old Mr Coffee is doing us any favors with these fine beans.
I have been seriously thinking about the Bonavita BV1800 but notice it only holds 40oz. I drink 2 twelve oz cups each morning and my wife drinks as much if not more.
I really need to find a 50+ ounce coffee maker that will showcase our home roasts. Help !

I don't have one, but I've heard good things about the Bunn Velocity Brew. It can brew up to 50 oz., and it brews at the proper temperature for the best tasting coffee. They have glass carafe, and thermal carafe models.

Any quality commercial machine will do this. Bunn makes a machine that brews straight into an airpot. The VPR-APS. Sams club sells it at one of the best prices for a brick and mortar store, where it is easy to take returns if you have problems. It is about $100 less than above. The problem with those cheep machines is that they do not brew at the correct temp. They are on the very cold side, drip coffee needs to be brewed at 195 to 205F, most of those machines barely get to 160. For good brewing, there is no short cut around quality equipment and a $40 brewer from Wallmart isn't it, sorry. A fairly good guide to if a machine can cut it or not is to look at the quality end coffee equipment websites such as SCG, 1stline etc. If they don't list it, most likely, it is not up to snuff. That is not to say that just because it IS listed at one of those sellers, it is a fantastic piece of gear, they need to reach into all the market segments they can and still have somewhat of a quality item too.
Thanks for trying though!

Thank you for the suggestions. I ended up buying the Bunn Velocity BTX-B. Stainless housing & stainless carafe. My past 2 brews have been kind of what I expected though. Set up per instructions and fired up 2 individual pots. As reference I have been brewing 82 grams in the 12 cup (64oz) Mr Coffee. Max grounds I can get in without an overflow.
I started with 60 grams of coffee , med grind, Bunn brand filters. After brewing I had grinds up to and on top of the brew basket, but no overflow. Brew was a bit weak.
Next pot I tried the tooth pick method and plugged 2 of the 5 spray holes. 60 grams, med grind, Bunn brand filters. Overflow this time. You could see the 3 indentations in the grounds from where they got blasted from the spray head.
My coffee is no older than 3-6 days of roast time on it. I have a feeling the bloom is creating a bit of problems. I went ahead an ordered the flow restricting spray head from Bunn and I am going to try and find some even taller filters at a restaurant supply store.

As a reference, I use 68 grams for 40 oz. of water in my Technivorm, so if you're only using 60 grams per 50 oz, that could explain weak tasting coffee.
Also, because the Bunn brews faster than your previous coffee maker, you will probably have to experiment with the grind size, most likely you'll need to grind finer. If the coffee starts tasting bitter, you went too fine.

Thanks Kevin. I was using 82 grams for 64 oz H2O (most the old Mr. Coffee would hold with out overflow) so I was trying to keep the ratio the same to compare taste.
Pot # 3 - I received my flow restricting spray head from Bunn via USPS. 3 working days travel time to the West Coast. Pretty good service. Ground 80g of fresh beans to med grind for 50oz of water (1.6 g per 1 oz water). Used a Bunn filter. A LOT better this time. The sound of the brew going into the carafe sounded a bit slower. Took just over 4 min to complete the brew. No overflow. Pulled the filter basket out and the saturation looked very good. Grounds were just below the top of the paper filter. Stirred the coffee in the carafe (stainless) to completely mix before drinking. Let it sit for a minute then poured. Super tasty and pipping hot. Way hotter than the old coffee maker. Went back to the carafe 2 hours later and still very hot.
Overall I am very happy with this purchase. Time will tell on reliability but after reading many posts regarding Bunn, I am not expecting any kind of problem soon...
I have seen it mentioned before that Bunn should include the flow restricting spray head with the coffee maker. I completely agree !! I can imagine unnecessary returns from consumers who are not aware of the optional spray head.
