Rick,

Sounds great, glad for you guys getting a good grinder that fits your needs--that's most important. Let me know how it goes.

I have a +/- 10 year old Quisinart DGB-500 series Grind N Brew with the 10 cup insulated carafe.
I thought I was drinking great coffee until I started home roasting recently. I then needed to brew a better cup with this brewer and found this thread.
I performed the suggested mod using 2 pieces of 1/2 ID food grade home brewing hose to create a double walled insulation. I also activated the 2-4 cup option for the 10 cup brew. I went from a constant 185 degree F delivery before modification to 203 degrees F delivery to the basket after the mod.
A full 18 degree increase in temp, consistent after 5 days of 5am auto grind and brew functionality using SweetMarias Costa Rica Helsar Leo Rohas Rola at Full City Roast each time.
While not a Technivorm brewer ($$$) this old Quisinart now produces a fabulously fragrant and flavored cup of coffee.
Thank you PhillyRick for your insight. It is greatly appreciated.

Enjoy the day!

Billy,

Delighted it's working for you!

I'm not sure how much the 2-4 cup option is helping; on the DCC-1200 all it does is interrupt the brewing periodically to prolong the contact time--it does nothing to the temperature.  The usual brewing time is about 1 min per "cup"; for 10 cups with the 2-4 cup button pressed the brewing time must be 15-20 min.  One would think that would produce a bitter and over-extracted brew.

Hello Rick.

After more experimental fun I find I was misinterpreting "Flavor" for an over extracted brew.  With the insulation in place and otherwise normal settings we are now enjoying a better brew.
Thanks again for your help.
