CraigA and CafeDJ, you folks are happy with the machine and that's great. So am I! But may I point out that neither of your suggestions are addressing Ajay's [EDIT: I meant Ayah. Sorry Ayah!] problem? He is brewing with no plastic parts installed. I think if you read his post carefully, you'll realize that brewing coffee is not going to make a difference for him, versus brewing water 7 times. Nor is washing plastic parts.
Washing all the plastic parts is great ... it just doesn't help Ajay .
In the mean time, the plastic taste in the coffee will go away after a couple days. At least, I couldn't detect it anymore.
The taste remains in the water -- water-only brews -- for much longer than that, and I wish we had an answer for what the cause is.
I count five people who report experiencing an initial plastic taste, including myself.

You're right Mike, so I'd deduce that the smell in then coming from the inside area of the plastic brewhead then when the hot water runs over & through it., &/or possibly the hot brew water running through an internal plastic tubing connecting the stainless steel tank outlet to the pulse control valve (plastic internal parts/lining possibly?) en route to the brew/showerhead.
P.S. lol, I'll go easy on the desserts & treats Rob! ;)

You're right, I haven't done water only cycles since the first day. I can only suggest contacting Brazen support to see what they recommend. It might also be prudent to get the water tested to see if there's something in it we should be concerned about. As a comparison tests from other machines would be interesting as well. Anyone know how to get that done?

Well, I was just curious if this quirk was unique to me or more common. The primary function of my machine is to brew coffee, I was just curious if it can produce hot water for other things. I've eliminated water from the possible causes (I think, I could be missing something) I've used tap water, activated carbon filtered, distilled&mineral bottled water, RO and distilled lab-quality water (borrowed from the university, it's processed on-site) in sealed PTFE containers : basically as close to perfectly pure water as you can get in an atmospheric environment.
This effect happens somewhere between the reservoir down to and including, the plastic dispersion thing that's right above the filter basket.
I'm at 17 blank runs and it still remains. It's odd though, it doesn't come through when you make coffee, just when you want water. I'd guess the smell/flavour is too subtle to be noticed in coffee, but against water - stands out like a sore thumb.

The only one I have is this wal-mart house brand one which was like 4$, which I bought because I needed a carafe and the machine was cheaper than an individual carafe. It also produces an unpleasant heated (not really hot) water, never tried coffee through it. However, a stainless steel water kettle does not produce any discernible aberration from what hot water should be: tasteless.

I hope that those people who have noticed the taste will drop Behmor a line, just to let them know. At the time I emailed them, only one other person had contacted them about this issue.

Yes, this is exactly my experience. Now that I've had the unit for about a week, the water taste is significantly reduced. The only thing that has seemed to help with the taste, is the passing of time.
I've boiled water in the reservoir, and gotten no taste. I've heated and then sampled water in the reservior with lid on, and no taste. But out the showerhead, water takes on that "plastic" taste.

I have a question for the Brazen users here...
I have had my Brazen since they first arrived and have had the following problem and would like to know if others are experiencing similar problem.
My first Brazen was replace because the water valve would not drain the reservoir completely after a month of use and progressively got worse until I could not use any longer.
Now with my second Brazen in use for a month again the reservoir has an inch of water in it after brewing a pot.
Yes, I am filling the water only to the "fill" line and I literally have brewed about 45 pots so far. I use clean water and there is absolutely no debris in the water to clog the valve.
This is getting to be frustrating as I feel I am going to have the same thing happen with my replacement as happened with my first.
Any one else with this going on or am I doing something wrong???

I haven't seen the water not drain, no.
If you do a manual release with water only, no coffee -- just dump the water continuously -- can you drain a full reservoir that way? (A better test is to check the flow rate, below.)
Does the normal brew program appear to be opening and closing the valve in (I think) 15 second intervals, like it's supposed to?
The only thing I can think of -- besides a defect of course -- is that blooming coffee is getting into / above the showerhead. Maybe you can watch the showerhead to check if it is delivering water at a reasonable rate. There's a rate printed in the manual I believe.
Are you certain you received a different unit from before, or did they fix your original.
