I enjoyed reading this thread as it applies to my current search for a new grinder. I am considering a LIDO or a Baratza Virtuoso with Preciso burr set.
I have a Mazzer Major for espresso duties, so the new grinder will not be used for espresso. It will be used for all other brewing methods including french press.
I have been using a KitchenAid Proline grinder and recently picked up a Porlex hand grinder. I noticed the Porlex seemed to provide more clarity in some of my brewed coffee which got the wheels turnging regarding a new, better grinder for brewed coffee.
I noticed a couple of you had the two grinders I am interested in. Would you be willing to provide some comparison info on cup quality. That is really the only thing I am interested in, although static problems with the Virtuoso would probably annoy me.
I was also wondering about the burr sets. I thought I read somewhere that the LIDO burr set is similar to the "old" virtuoso burrs, not the new Preciso burrs. Maybe any burr wobble in the LIDO is so well controlled that it makes up for this.

Michael, I have a LIDO (well, two) and a Preciso. Despite their differences I find the grind quality is comparable. I'd be happy with just a LIDO on my shelf if the Preciso ever died. Yes, burr mounting and alignment probably play a role.
Here are some OE posts about the LIDO's 38mm Ascaso burr set:
Wow, that's interesting. If I remember correctly, at least one review I saw of the Lido on HB rated it comparable to a Mini for espresso. I have only used mine for FP and Aeropress, so I can't say where I'd put it on the espresso scale.
