The only way these brewers could have been compared would be to find what made a particular coffee taste best in each one (to one tester) and then blind taste test to establish a winner. Even then, it is a subjective test.

I can't imagine going back to an espresso machine that did not have adjustable temperature that could be quantified in some way, even if it is a pressurestat and group thermometer. It should be obvious that Joe has done to the drip maker what so many of us did to Silvias starting back around 2002 or so- added adjustable temperature control (PID). Instantly, Joe made all other drip machines obsolete- or at least to say, he established the gold standard to which all other machines can only hope to place second, at best.

The ones that make the cups Gail liked the best are still for sale on their site - do you think these will show up in the clearance section any time soon? Will Williams Sonoma be shedding Technivorm inventory soon? Is Boyd's ready to close up shop? Is Breville leaving the market? Is Bonavita closing the doors?

Not likely - your announcement of obsolescence is premature at best, and complete foolishness at worst.

The funny thing is that even though I've enjoyed a Technivorm I always go back to an Aeropress.  Something really simple and easy about it!

Lots of second grade coffee makers are for sale all over the place: in fact, the majority of drip coffee makers are not very good at all.  But they do sell.   That doesn't mean they can match or exceed the Brazen.  Certainly, not everything that SCG sells has been blessed by God.  So it's a strange argument from that perspective.  It's a strange argument from any perspective, really, since the test is fatally flawed from the outset.

I'm just here to get mad about a youtube video where gail "...tastes each cup & ranks her personal preference", because I expected it to meet the rigorous standards of a scientific journal.

I own both a Technivorm and a Brazen, and I think that review is a bit ridiculous as well.

The Technivorm and the Brazen both make really good coffee. The programability of the Brazen however does allow me to make what I think is better coffee. Some beans like a slightly higher brew temp, some don't. I can actually change that on the Brazen. I can make a better cup of coffee on the Brazen. I can also however make a worse cup of coffee on the Brazen with the wrong settings.

Comparing gold filters to paper and using that to say "this brewer is better" is beyond reason. It makes zero sense. It'd be like me pouring the same quantity of beans, at the same grind into a french press, getting a terrible result, and denouncing it.

On features alone, nobody can argue that the Brazen is more capable. Coffee is simple. X temp water, Y grind setting, Z immersion time produces your final cup. The Brazen offers better temperature consistency, programmable temperature, and programmable presoak.

It's a more feature filled coffee maker.

The Technivorm is not a bad brewer however, it's also very capable, but very simple and straightforward in it's operation. It is what it is.

Is one better than the other? Depends what you are after honestly.

The Technivorm is simpler than the Brazen. There's no time setting, not programming, nothing. Turn it on and brew.

The Brazen is more a geeks gadget. Program temp, program pre-soak, etc. A coffee snob can do more with the Brazen.

Both of them are good, and we all win from the competition and innovation.

I know, right? When this thread loses it's legs I might change the title to "Brazen Shills - Let's Meet Them" if the BS posts keep rolling in - gotta love that guy (or bot) joining in 2007 but just now coming in out of the cold - the member named Slopbox I think...

I have the 4th best brewer around according to Gail and I couldn't be happier about it. I can make two different cups by using gold or paper, I can adjust the pre soak time to brew full pots of very fresh beans, and I can alter the flavors by adjusting brew temp, I like variety.
