I've used both burr grinders and whirly blade grinders for drip coffee, every day, for about 40 years now. Starting with my first Chemex in 1972.

I stand by what I said. Switching from preground coffee to whole beans and grinding it yourself will make a vastly bigger improvement in paper filter drip brewing than the difference between grinders. Sorry if that is not "geeky" enough...

Do you really think using pre-ground coffee is "perfect"? Hmmmm . . . .

I'm afraid 'm forced to agree with Randy:

That shows that you are getting as much out of the beans as Duncan gets out of them. Assuming that they are using the usual commercial brewers (Bunn, Curtis, etc.) I would theorize that the coffee didn't have that much in it to start with.

My reference to "Perfect" is in relation to the quality of the Dunkin Decaf I brewed compared to the store brewed.  It certainly isn't as rich as the whole bean I grind.  For the record, I am grinding my whole beans with a "cheap" burr grinder (Mr. Coffee).  As this is my first burr grinder, I can't speak to the grind quality compared to a "quality" grinder.  However, I can say my grinder gives a much more consistent grind than my Magic Bullet blade grinder.  As a coffee novice, I have come to appreciate burr grinding and the quality of the brew produced by the Brazen.  Not sure I will ever reach the technical expertise of many on this board, but I like reading posts that give insight on coffee extraction.  I have been looking at the Bonavita kettle and Clever dripper to use when I only want to make a single cup.  I may wind up drinking a little more decaf since this hobby seems to lead to caffeine overload.  Need to find some high quality whole bean decaf.
