I have a Cuisinart conical CBM-18, and I think it does a fine _enough_ job for french press. However, I would gladly (and will be at some point) upgrade to an Encore. That refurbished encore deal seems to be dead because I would have snapped up one myself. I think it would be more than good enough for the french press job.
Not necessarily a deal breaker, as I'm ~90km from the border (in Ottawa) and frequently travel down to south ON, so a slight re-direct off to the bridge and back isn't going to kill me. I don't think I could find it in Canada for anything approaching that price, frankly. Also would be tempted to pull the trigger on the scale add-on.
The addition of the Esatto scale makes the Preciso, just a joy to use. One of the best (two) purchases I have made in a long time. The Preciso is extremely easy to clean, so easy, that I routinely do a full clean every time I switch coffee, which is usually every 12 oz. bag of beans. By cleaning it that often, nothing ever has a chance to cake on or build up. Soft brush and a vacuum cleaner removes everything. Take care!

The pathologically precise are annoying, but right!
