I've had one since they first shipped. The carafe drips sometimes and other times is fine, maybe it's just technique but not a big deal. And there are a few minor drips as well related to the gravity design, so what!
For 200 bucks shipped its brilliant! And Roastmasters throws in a free pound of roasted coffee and Melita filters to boot.
I see this as pretty much impossible. I preheat my carafe with water right off of the boil. When the brew is about half way done, I preheat our 3 coffee cups with the emptied out scalding hot water from the carafe. For the coffee that I'm using, I brew at 198°F & the temp in my carafe after brewing is 185 181°F!
P.S. I'm running a test with water only right now (7:52pm) just for the Hell of it & will post back with the result. The finished temp in the carafe is 181°F. I'd imagine that the finished carafe temp would go up in relation to a higher starting brew temp. If I were to go up 2°F more in starting brew temp, the carafe temp would also be 2°F hotter., 183°F. This is on par with my commercial BUNN VPR-APS brewer! {:-D
Not sure how many automatic drip machines you have used but when you have a semi closed environment and hot water there will be condensation, the fact that the Brazen's boiler is at the top with such a large opening makes it very easy to wipe up, pour out, or just ignore and add more water (not sure what bacteria survives at 185f + that would be getting into a coffee pot).
I have found anything before 3 days roast out of my roaster needs 2:15min+ of presoak to keep the bloom under control. I started to increase my dosage for .9L brews to 52g-56g and this seems to keep it tasting very close to a 66g 1.2L brew. I am also starting to play with brew temps below 200f and liking the results.
I suggest you take a standard brewer after a full brew cycle and turn it upside down dumping the contents into a measuring cup. I've witnessed the "gold standard" of brewers have it's contents dumped and measured. It came in at better than five ounces of water that would sit in a dark boiler.
Regarding the "cold" gripe I'd suggest you up the temperature to 204, maybe even 205 and while waiting for the pot to brew do a quick read on the basics of thermodynamics, specifically heat loss.

When the Brazen finishes brewing in the morning, I twist the lid and flip it from horizontal to vertical to allow the condensate to drip off the inside of the lid back into the kettle. I'll put the lid in the dish drainer rack and enjoy my coffee.
Before leaving for work, I tap the Brazen a bit and then remove the filter pulling it forward and then quickly back under the showerhead for a moment to catch any drops of water that have stuck to the showerhead through surface tension and possibly capillary action. I usually don't see any drips, but sometimes do. I then dump the grounds and I clean the filter and filter holder and put them in the dish draining rack.
I also clean the pot and put it in the rack all this to dry. When I come home, the equipment is aired out and dry, including the drops of water that were in the kettle. Since I'm the last to leave in the morning in a house of three coffee drinkers, I notice that the 900 ml pot I brew is always gone when I take the last cup. This didn't happen with my Bunn BTX, everyone at my house likes the Brazen much better.
