The thread is 33 pages of "are we there yet?" followed by some relevant data. Comparing it to other coffee makers is an example of critical thinking. If the forum is not designed to foster honest discussion then it loses objectivity and value. Being a fan and being a proud owner is great, being a fanboy is not - it dilutes the purpose of this thread.

As for the quick responses to oldgearhead's post:

oldgearhead Said:

I almost bought one (Brazen), but two things held me back: the extra $150, and no Melitta filter holder.
So got a second DCM900, and brew like this:
Water = 1.2L, under sink, dual filtered, at 204F.
Coffee = 72 grams of just to full-city, no oil, rested 5-6 days.
Virtuoso ground at 18 for the Melitta #4 bamboo filter, and 24 for the gold.
Pre-wet 4-6 ounces.

I think the lighter the roast the more coffee needed.

Posted October 2, 2012 link

He does not claim the machine he uses has an automatic pre-wet feature - he is describing his brewing method - the machine has pause and pour - remove the carafe and the water fills the basket and does not leave the coffee bed.  He probably is describing manual pre-infusion much like what you can do with the Technivorm.

I chew coffee beans with my teeth while gargling with 195 F water to enjoy coffee. What is this "coffee brewing" device you speak of?

Just did my first manual brew cycle!
I need to practice a bit. What a cool thing though.
My Hario V2 glass filter sitting on top of the #3 700ml carafe fit perfectly.

Cool. Which HARIO carafe do you have? The one with the glass handle? or the one with the black plastic handle?

With all respect, the purpose of this thread is NOT to compare the brazen to other brewers. Once you GET one, start a thread and compare it to your collection.

As for the quick responses to oldgearhead's post:

This is true. But it is also misleading calling it "pre-wet."
What does THAT mean? The machine doesn't do that.

OK, I don't want to get into a peeing contest here.
I will delete further posts that pursue this direction.

Oh, speaking as a MEMBER of CG, which I value more than a "title". if I, or anyone else waxes enthusiastic about a device being discussed on a thread...and we OWN  it, we have every right to be enthusiastic. Or Not.
We are not dissing any other brewer, and in fact complimentary things have been said about brewers like the excellent Technivorm.

Cool. Which HARIO carafe do you have? The one with the glass handle? or the one with the black plastic handle?

Posted October 2, 2012 link

Black plastic handle.
I'll take a picture tonight. It has to be exactly centered. Fortunately, with the carafe, the distance from the brew screen to the filter is only 3cm.
A 3 cup chemex should work as well.

However, i find the taste and aroma from the normal (non manual) a 600ml brew cycle plenty good, and comparable to my manual pour over....and less hassle.
I'd say, if the the carafe was any lower/smaller, there might be a problem with the spray pattern slightly overshooting the grind.

Gonna try again tonight with the Hario.  Slightly finer grind as well.

You could defeat the valve on the bottom of the filter basket and brew into something else.
