Good morning. I am a mid-level coffee consumer !!! Quality is important but not at any price. I drink espresso at the coffee shops but do not make it at home.
Please advise best grinder for individual drip filter or French Press for under $300 and preferably closer to $200. It is sometimes possible to buy the Rancilio Rocky Doserless on eBay for under $300 but rarely. I am thinking about the Baratza Virtuoso 586 which is around $230.

Any Baratza will do the job. I have no hands on but I have seen vids of them pulling good unpressurized shot on a high end home espresso machine. They just aren't built to grind a lot of coffee. If your looking at only a few drinks a day Baratza's will do. Even the encore. If you wan't more I would think about looking for a used commercial grinder or a higher pricepoint. $400-$500.

For "never going to make espresso" I'd buy a refurb Baratza (Maestro or new (Encore) equivalent). I bought one of these for my dad a few years ago & it's fantastic! He uses it daily & it's worked flawlessly.
For "might make espresso some day" I'd buy a Cunil Tranquilo. It's the same level of grinder as the Rocky.

Rocky is an OK starter espresso grinder (in today's market) but it is best used for espresso, as espresso grinders do not work well as general use grinders, the requirements of the grind is different between espresso and say, drip and it is not just the size of the grounds.
