Did you weigh the cold water to make sure your measuring jug is accurate ?
1000cc (weighed) poured into mine shows about 2mm below the 1 litre mark on the tank, which I reckon is pretty accurate all things considered.
However there's a significant difference. The original Melitta version tanks are marked .5 litre,1 litre and 1.25 litre, as well as 2/4/6/8/10 "cups", although cups is pretty meaningless here in Europe as we don't use cups as a cooking measure, and there's no real standard.
Looking at the Bonavita version in your pictures the markings are totally different.
I'd do a double check by weighing the water accurately as well as measuring it.
