There are a number of creative ways of getting more coffee beverage using the AP (even verted), but looks like Heart's method works for you.
On caffeine, the majority of caffeine is dissolved and ends up in your beverage within the first 30 seconds - it's one of the first compounds to be dissolved. The interesting thing about this is that the amount of coffee... determines your caffeine. Not brewing method, not extraction, not strength - simply the amount of coffee.
Caffeine estimation is:
Grams of coffee X 1.2% (on average) in the cup.
If you use 17g of coffee to make a cup, you can expect around 200mg of caffeine. An espresso doppio (double shot) is usually made from 13g of coffee, and will contain about 150mg for the whole thing, or about 75mg per shot.
Espresso allows very quick consumption of caffeine because of the concentration. You can consume a shot or two of espresso in a minute, whereas it is less likely to consume an entire 16oz of normal brewed coffee in less than about 15 minutes or so.
Oral absorption rate of caffeine is extremely fast as chemicals go - generally less than a half hour - so tossing 150mg in a couple minutes will have a blood caffeine level spike much quicker than consuming 360mg over 15-20 minutes. Rapid oral absorption means nearly immediate bioavailability.
In a way, it is analogous to beer vs. wine vs. liquor. A 12-oz beer, 5 oz. wine or 1.5oz shot of liquor all contain similar amounts of alcohol - but because of the concentration with liquor, one can consume a shot in a short period of time (if not in a mixed drink) and get intoxicated very quickly - so much so that one could enjoy a couple-three beers over an hour, or a couple-three shots in a few minutes, with drastically different results.

Basically, I shoot for a 15 or 16 to one ratio, water to coffee. So, for my AP, I use about 300 grams of water to 19 or 20 grams of coffee. I let it steep for about 1 1/2 minutes, then press. Makes about 9 oz or so of coffee.
For my ccd, I use 400 grams of water and 25 grams of beans.
There is nothing klutzy about it. The aeropress was just not designed to be used inverted. Doesn't mean it can't, just not designed for it so issues can happen.

In that video, Tom couldn't get the plunger to seal at first so a fair amount of coffee leaked through (despite that being his "secret" solution to not bothering to invert it). Then he unscrewed the cap and dropped it into his cup of coffee.
I think he's a klutz!
The only issue I've ever had with inversion was just one time when I absent-mindedly forgot to insert a filter paper in the cap. When I re-verted the Aeropress the flood of coffee and grounds overwhelmed my cup and made a small mess on the counter. OMG!
I agree with Evan on this point. It's not that difficult. The Aeropress may not be designed for inverted brewing but using it that way doesn't open up a big can of worms either. If you're that accident prone you probably shouldn't be anywhere near really hot water.
That said, I'm not convinced it makes much if any difference in the quality of the brewed coffee. It's just one way to achieve consistency.

FWIW, I'm using a Disk Fine, and it seems to pass less water than the paper filter...maybe an ounce or two during the 2+ minutes that I'm stirring. With 18~20 grams (my scale isn't the best) I get a solid 10oz of happiness.

Bah!!! I did that very same thing. Makes a muck of a hess....
When brewing cold, I have noticed a tendency for the plunger rubber to shrink and harden - it can leak a bit and also requires attention when re-verting.
I did a temporary goblet "No Mess Inverted Aeropress Mod" but found it hard to get a really good press at the end. Ended up pitching the idea.
Still haven't made my APXL - it's on my list tho.
