My Vario W has a hard time consistently switching back and forth between coarse grind for drip then fine grind for espresso. I've spoke to Baratza and they say the burrs do get stuck and you might need to waste some beans to get back to the proper finer adjustment to "fall" back into place. What I do then to help counteract this is to decrease the coarse control (notch by notch) near the end of the grind cycle for drip (figuring some finer grounds for drip isn't a big deal and won't actually waste any beans) but even still the results are 50/50. Sometimes it works and my espresso grind is right on, other times it never got to the desired fine grind resulting in a poor espresso shot...I only drink 1 double shot in the morning, and then grind 30g for drip for work...so much back and forth wasting beans and bad shots.
Any ideas? I'm compemplating getting another stand alone grinder for drip but after recently spending $550 for the Vario W it's a hard pill to swallow for it not to work for both uses. (PS: My old Virtuoso had no issues switching back and forth and being spot on everytime).

I have no experience with the Vario, but with my Preciso and Infinity before that, there was always some residual grind even if it is a small amount that throws off a finer or coarser adjustment. Most of the time with the Preciso if I want to get the grind completely dialed in after brewing for drip I waste a couple grams.
If you still have the virtuoso I would probably keep that for drip as it's probably a better grinder for that anyway. However you allude to not having it anymore.

Yes unfortunately I sold the virtuoso when I got the vario... I hear ya about the residual which is why I feather it down and waste some but still doesn't do the trick half of the time!
