As for the quality of the brew itself, the added cost won’t make much difference.You can make a great cup of coffee with some of the simplest coffee makers – like a French press or $10 manual drip coffee cone.Among thermal coffee makers, the Capresso MT500 Coffee Maker gets a really good vote. It features a 10-cup capacity, stainless-steel lined water reservoir (so the water isn't in contact with aluminum) and pre-programming abilities. Experts prefer thermal carafes overall, because glass carafes heated by a warming plate tend to produce acidity, which results in bitter-tasting coffee.

Best 2 cups (12 oz) coffee I've had is from a siphon brewer: the Hario Nouveau NCA-3. It says 3 cups but for me, I get 2 (6oz) cups.
Comes with a steel filter that holds paper or cloth. Clean and quick. Even with the spirit burner, I get great coffee after about 6-7 minutes. The only downside is it's very expensive. You could try the less expensive Yama TCA-3 type.
Pretty much an excellent couple of cups every time!
