I know the fully automatic machines are supposed to make this kind of coffee but does anyone know if it can be made on an ordinary espresso machine? Thanks!
Coffee Crema is not a coffee. Crema is a component of espresso. Most super automatic espresso machines actually do a poor job of producing it (this board is replete with stories about such); whilst ordinary espresso machines (ordinary as in levers, semi-autos, and variations of them) do a decent to spectacular job of producing it according to quality of machine and experience of user.
There are far more experienced espresso machine users on this board than I; maybe they can add their 2 cents worth also.

Cafe Crema is in fact a correctly extracted long coffee with a decent crema, generally 150ml extracted in 28 seconds, and any pump espresso machine can do it. You DO need a decent grinder, though. See http://www.coffeeco.com.au/articles/challenge.html towards the bottom.

I never knew that. "Learning all the time", like Benny Hill used to say.
On a side note I would like to hold a brief moment of silence for my beloved Krups Superauto. I had to bury it yesterday after a few years of service. It had a short, but very eventful life. I screwed up the bean grinder part of it; choked the grinds outlet where it dumps them into the "portafilter" thingy. The motor wouldnt stop trying to grind; pulled the plug, just wanted to keep grinding after I plugged it back in again. Finally the motor gave out. Couldn't resusitate it.
It will always hold a special place in my heart. Sniffle. Sniffle.
I can see the smile on your face right now: ANOTHER SUPERAUTO BITES THE DUST!

I make them on my Quick Mill semi-auto all the time (usually as my after-dinner coffee). Here's a short thread about it. Like Alan, I use 14g of coffee to generate about 120ml of brewed coffee.
