It is nice. I performs more like an automated filter cone with the excellent temps and dispersion created by the cone lid. Carafe can dribble while pouring but wont if you are careful and steady handed.

What color is it?

I had one years ago and it finally bit the dust.
I was using coffee that probably wasn't that great and wasn't paying attention to
the cup quality tha much - just gettin' the AM java.

But since home roasting I've been trying different brew methods and decided to get one on ebay.
The brew temp is amazing. I get 203-4 F and once got a 206.
If I don't brew a full pot it can be lower.

When you consider the main draw of a Technivorm is the temp - and it's $300,
I'm satisfied with the BCM, esp considering I scored it for about 5 or 6 bucks.

I really wonder  in a blind taste test - if the Tech cup would be consistently picked over the Melitta.
Ya never know!

+1 on the BCM-4s.  A real treasure--especially for just a cup or two.  I have 2 whites and a green one.  Anytime I see one at the thrift, I grab it.  Since they are distinctive in the shape, they're easy to see.

I love your reference to these as a poor man's Technivorm!

Cheers
David

I picked one up from Goodwill a year ago.  I lent it to my sister, and she's not willing to give it back.

I just got one off of eBay today. No instructions of course (used). Any special instructions I need to know? Any recomendations on coffee amounts, brew times, grind settings etc. This will go with my AP, FP, CCD, Moka, and filter cone, my wife just shakes her head :-). Thanks Craig

I think I remember my measurements from back when I first got one of these brewers - filling the tank up to the 4 cup mark is approximately 22 fl ounces.  I use 40g coffee with that much water in the brewer.

EricBNC,

Your memory is spot-on.  My thermos barely holds 22 oz and it was 1 pot = 1 fill.  The ONLY drawback to the Melitta BCM-4 that I encountered was with really fresh-roasted coffee the bloom would push up into the shower head and get the inside oily.  Cleaning required un-snapping the showerhead cap.  Over time, one of the plastic tines would fatigue and break.  One poster noted that the tines can be filed down a bit--I think that is a good idea.

If there is a better way to deal with the bloom and still make a full pot, I would love to know.  Obviously, I will not sacrifice fresh-roasted to avoid the bloom! We are coffeegeeks, after all.

Cheers,
David
