Like the title says - would appreciate your recommendations for a 4-cup coffee machine with a thermal carafe. I'm using a Kitchenaid 4-cupper, which makes good enough coffee, but the heating plate is too hot and burns the coffee after 20 minutes.

I can't think of any good four cup makers with a thermal carafe. Your best bet might be to buy a thermos or thermal carafe to pour the coffee in after making. I found this one on eBay, my disclaimer I'm in no way connected to this seller and can't vouch for him or his products. Click Here (cgi.ebay.com)

This Cuisinart is, for my simple tastes, decent for a small, simple 4 cup brewer - with BB&B's return policy it is worth trying. They pop up used from time to time in thrift stores for a couple bucks too.
