I thought I found a mini red plastic percolator common to thrift stores when I rang up this Krups Type 147 Household Coffee Maker (from the bottom of the machine - made in Germany too), but it turns out this is not a percolator at all.
Apparently this device is an electric mini traveling mokka pot. The compact device is rated at 300 watts and heats reasonably fast. A custom container holds four servings of grounds (or beans) that fits below the brewing chamber parts. The grounds basket has a built in gold filter and the middle piece has a spring loaded pressure release valve. I am not going to pretend I know exactly how to operate this thing, but that never stops me from trying. The brewing coffee comes out of what looks like and probably doubles as the handle. Yummy and hot with some sediment in the bottom of the cup similar to a good French press brewed with proper ground particle size. The cup has a ton of body - drip cannot get you here, and Press isn't as clear with flavor notes.
If anyone knows how this is supposed to work I would appreciate the input.

I chew coffee beans with my teeth while gargling with 195 F water to enjoy coffee. What is this "coffee brewing" device you speak of?

Thanks a lot! This is a Krups Cafe Voyager Type 147 mokka brewer - neat!
It looks like I used it correctly - might play around with grind size just for fun. I am missing the tote and the cup, but I can improvise. I see what looks like a date code on the instructions - 07/91, so almost twenty years old.

I might have to keep my eyes pealed for one of those. That way I could make coffee without leaving my desk at work.

Drank coffee shop coffee at 17-18 to stay up all night. Drink some in the army to stay awake, too. Then, didn't start drinking coffee again until I was 55 and daughter-time consisted of meeting a CB&TL on Sunset and Argyle in LA. A couple of years ago, found a Krups 147 in an ex-wife box and started using it. I don't even know if it's got all the parts, but makes a great cup the way I am using it.
I have 5 pieces including the carrying bag (not shown). I just put a couple of ounces or water in the container, a rounded tablespoon of coffee in the filter, lock it down tight, punch the button, and wait. Sometimes, I'll put about six ounces of hot non-fat milk in the cup after the light turns off. Lately, it seems busted. No matter how tight the cover, there's water leakage (not hot coffee leakage). Also, the light sensor must be whacked, since the light turns off at the appropriate time (when all the water's steamed thru the filter and drained into the cup), but comes back on in a few seconds whether all the water steamed out or not. Occasionally, there is water left in the container.
I don't seem to be able to locate any business that can diagnose the problem, but that may be because the unit is so old (at http://tinyurl.com/Krups147 it skips the 147 designation: 141 144 145 ? 149 150 152). I'll replace it, I guess. Anybody have a suggestion for a unit that will perform essentially the same? I'll consider a two-cup also. Thanks!
