I personally take most reviews (including the ones here) with some skepticism. I just checked the reviews here and there seems to be 15 good reviews for every one bad one. Do the good ones hold any value to you?
I looked at the positive reviews, and from those reviews I knew that the Baratza was going to give good, consistent grinds. And, I have no concerns about that matter. But, I was looking for both performance and durability. For me, a grinder, no matter how well it performed, was not something I'd want if it was going to break down in a short time.
With most reviews, not just for coffee grinders, the item's performance gets reviewed out of the box when its brand new. But, with a lot of items produced today, they're not designed to last long. That becomes an issue when most reviewers don't go back and re-edit their initial review when they encounter problems later on. In light of that, I always try to look at reviews where it was used for awhile, not the ones where they just had it for a week before they wrote their review.
