Picture of the 8.1cm/81mm/3.19" Rockwell hardness 66C guaranteed/warranted for 3 years &/or 30,000 lbs of coffee! Heh.. {;-)
Burr set is a hefty 254 grams X 2 = 508 grams or 17.9 ounces or 1.12 lbs.
This isn't the actual burr set out of my unit, but an original BUNN OEM set I ordered some weeks ago & received on Tues Jan 4th for a Bunn LPG refurbishment. That's the actual date of manufacture laser or acid etched on the back of the burrs, 10/10 Oct 2010 two pics below this one.

Beautifull!
Were there issues with popcorning using the 7g dose? With 18 people on this website suddenly owning the same grinder I wonder how long it will take before we have a complete set of "must have" modifications hehehe.

Well, the grinder will chew through 7 - 8 ozs of coffee in I think it's 36 seconds. Popcorning you can't see because it's closed off with the sliding guillotine door/s. You're suposed to have enough volume/weight of coffee in the hopper so that you get a proper measured dose of coffee grinds once you calibrate the grinder properly. Another approximate calculation for the 99.9 second timer limit, the grinder would go through 1.8 lbs of coffee!

I was going to create a topic asking about the loudness of the Baratza Virtuoso, but instead I'll ask here about the loudness of this grinder, assuming there are still some available.
I live in a very small dorm room with a roommate. His bed's maybe, say, 20ft away. Maybe more, I'm terrible at estimating these things. I'd like not to disturb him too much at 8:30 in the morning, but I understand that electric grinders are (somewhat?) loud, and that there's no way around this. Until now I've only used a hand grinder, so I really have no clue what to expect from this or anything else.
Anyway, getting to my point: How loud is the grinder in comparison to, say, a garbage disposal? That's probably a bad reference point, but it's all I can think of at the moment. Basically any information you can give will do. How does it compare to other grinders, especially ones intended for home use? Would you be offended at being woken up by one?

Hi Justin,
Welcome to the Coffeegeek forums! {;-)
In a dorm room, well I don't think this is the grinder for you then.. I don't know how loud a garbage disposal is, so I can't help you there.
It is what it is, a commercial grinding piece of equipment. The loudest part of the process (other that the sound of the machine devouring/chewing through the beans lol!) is the clack of the guillotine door/s opening once & closing once.
