Subject: Bunn BTX help found on older forums....THANKS (more)

I bought a Bunn BTX but like many others here reading past forums we had the problem that the coffee wasn't anywhere near strong enough.  I had it packed up and ready to send back to the company.  I REALLY wanted this coffeemaker to work because I loved how hot the coffee was and I loved how quickly it brewed.  I did a search her and read back through some old posts about the sprayhead holes.   I unpacked and plugged two of the holes with toothpicks last night and lo and behold the coffee was wonderful this a.m.   Now I'm going to call Bunn for the restrictor head.

I don't understand why for a machine that costs $150 they don't pack it in the original box and give you the option of whatever head you want-mild or strong.

Thanks to everyone that posted and participated in those threads.  It was very helpful information!

I'm talking to myself here now but I just wanted to say that I emailed Bunn yesterday, had a response today and they mailed me out the restrictor heads.  So happy!  :)

That's terrific!  You may find however that even the restrictor head isn't slow enough...I did.  YMMV

Tim/Kim, does adding extra coffee help, or would that possibly create "blooming" issues with 2-5 day old roast?
I was toying around with the idea of getting the newer STX model (ss carafe)

She actually sent me the flower shaped resticter head with one hole and that's working just fine for us.

I think adding extra coffee will cause overflow issues in the basket.  I can't actually add more because I'm grinding my own beans and using 2 heaping tablespoons per cup of my grind.  If I were to add more I'd definitely have overflow.
