I only drink coffee in the am.  I don't like pods or other "gimmicks"
I'v always used a drip pot
Any recommendations (prefer under $150)?

What do you use now?  What is it you're looking to change?

You could use:
Aeropress
Small manual drip
French Press

All would be cheap and easy to use and provide a good cup.

I think this Melitta mini drip brewer would fit your needs perfectly.  Get the small SwissGold filter, too.

For more coffee at a time, I'd recommend a basic Braun brewer.

Get on ebay, and look for a Melitta BCM4, or a KitchenAid KCM055 4 cup dripper.  Both of these are discontinued, but you can usually find them in gently used condition.  Otherwise, a Melitta single serve pourover brewer or Bodum 3 cup press will do fine.

I would take a look-see on ebay at the Bunn coffee maker line.  They have been in the coffee business forever and some of there commercial rebuilt machines are super bargains and last forever make coffee fast full pot in under 3 mins!

I own 2..They are large, bullet proof and make excellent coffee in 3-3 1/2 minutes.

Did I mention they are large?

THanks.  Sounds like the perfect thing!  I gave my last small 4cup Mr. Coffee to my mom.  It worked fine and coffee was good on most days.  Not consistent.  My old Oster drip into thermos doesnt get coffee hot from the get-go!

I would second the Melitta Manual Pour-Over method.  Can't beat the price and you can't beat the coffee even with a $200+ coffee maker.  Although you can beat the convenience....but if you can spare about 4 extra minutes in the morning, then it is well worth it.  Another plus with the manual pour-over: you don't have to worry about the performance of small brews, it brews one cup at a time.  I have seen numerous posts about people looking for coffee makers that brew small batches well.  There are some that do it well, but most seem to be a compromise somewhere.  You can buy a #2 cone and a #6 cone and have any size brew you want.

Also, I would be careful about the metal filter with a one-cupper.  I have had problems myself and heard other people as well talk about the super quick brew time.  The water shoots right through and you won't get the proper 3-4 minutes of brewing.  It can be done, but it adds to the hastle and defeats the purpose.  Better off going with a French Press at that point.

French Press and the Aeropress also fit the bill.

Good luck.

For a single serving I usually use a small French press.  If I need a bit more I use the Melitta BCM-4.

It brews at the correct temperature and has a good shower head which disperses the water well.

The down-sides are:

  1. The shower head is a pain to clean.

  2. They are no longer made so you have to find a used one.

I may know where you can find one or two (or three or four) used BCM4's ;)  I also may know of a few spare carafes, filter baskets and lids, and the like lying around (along with spare switches, heating elements, etc.).
