during the past week, i've posted a few questions seeking help with picking a new drip in the 75 to 125 price range.  I appreciate your input.  I ended up getting the Cuisinart 1200, which i've only used once, so i don't have a good opinion, but the temps are running 197 so i feel pretty good about it.  I found the first pot to be nearly or perhaps equally good to my Braun KF180, which has always made terrific coffee in my opinion.

Interestly, while digging thru the cabinets, I found a device given to me by a college roommate, as a wedding gift.  It is a Starbucks coffee press, with the name Bodum on it.  I went to Publix, picked up a bag of Eight o Clock 100% columian bean vs. my standard folgers ground coffee and put it in my Braun grinder, which i've had for 10 yrs and never used.  The directions suggested more coffee than i've ever used (2 tbls per 4oz) but it produced the best cup of coffee i remember ever having.  I used an electric heater which produces 200 deg water and i let it steep for 3-4 min.  I wasn't sure how long i needed for 12 oz and 6 tbls, but it came out great.

I'm not sure i need the cuisinart except when guest come b/c i only drink one or two cups.  the wife doesn't drink coffee, so a big drip is less important on a daily basis.

I'll need to read more to see what you folks say about these presses, etc.  I might be starting to get the bug for this coffee thing.

Congratulations! You've just discovered one of the easiest and time-tested ways to make a great cup of coffee. Everything is in your control with this method. Just don't drink that last sip :-)

Hey, glad to see the coffee bug is spreading :)   Once you've got the bug you'll always find that there is a step up, but I think you'll be getting your best cups of coffee out of you french press.  The step up I'll recommend, as will most other coffeegeeks, is to buy freshly roasted (within 2 weeks) coffee, which you most likely can't find in the grocery store.  Believe me, if you thought the eight o clock was good in the press, trying some fresh artisan roasted coffee will blow your mind...and your taste buds.  Also, look into a new grinder...I believe Baratza has good line of grinders and will do an excellent job with you press coffee.  Doing those two things will get you brewing the best cups of coffee you'll have, even better than most coffeeshops.  Well, welcome to CoffeeGeek and have fun with the new bug!

French press coffee is my favorite too.  Its a little more 'manual', but I think its worth it.

I have the large Bodum press.  It'll do 8-10 'normal' coffee cups...just about right for me and the wife (2 cups each).
