Does anyone know if the Technivorm series will work well brewing 1-2 cups of coffee. I know that most coffee makers are designed for a pot of coffee. If not, any suggestion on a drip coffee maker that would be good for this, not interested in the machines that take the prepackaged coffee. Thanks.

It depends what you mean by "1-2 cups".
For me, a cup of coffee is about 12-15oz, or 350-450ml. I regularly brew two of these in the Technivorm, which works out to just under 7 x 125ml "cups" as marked on the reservoir with a small amount left over. The Technivorm is perfectly fine for this use as it is the majority of the full 1,250ml capacity (I have the 10-cup model; there are other models that have only a 1,000ml capacity).
If you mean 1-2 cups as marked on the reservoir, then you'll probably have an issue. This would be only about 125-250ml or between 4 and 8.5oz. The problem with using the TV for this is that the brew time is so short. If you are brewing this small of an amount, you'll probably do better with a pour-over filter where you can control the brew time by slowing the pour and reducing the flow so that the extraction time stays around 4 minutes. You could still do it in the TV by using the stop-drip valve, but it would be overkill unless you already have one.
Even if you mean one full 15oz (3.5 cups on the reservoir), you could still use this on the TV if you use the stop-drip valve and let the grounds infuse longer before you let the basket empty out.

I make small amounts (12-16oz) using the "stop-drip valve" on the filter. (I've got a KBT 741 10 Cup) When brewing smaller amounts, I use a heavier throw, coarser grind, and leave the stop-drip valve totally closed until the basket is full, then open half way. Typically I don't like the results as much as a larger brew, but I've gotten some damned fine cups this way.

Another thing: if you consistently are brewing only small amounts and don't yet have a TV, consider a different brewer such as the AeroPress or a pour-over basket. If you occasionally have other people to make coffee for and need it then for a larger capacity, then the TV would be a good choice for purchase.
If you already have a TV, then try both batch sizes and see how they compare. I was assuming you didn't already have one, but maybe you do.

As other posts note, the level marked "4" on the machine's reservoir is really what most people would consider 2 cups of coffee (or a big car mug) and the TV works just fine for that amount. I consider the "6" cup level to be 2 cups in the generous size mugs we use in the morning.

My daughter makes a "to-go" cup (about 16 oz) most mornings and it works just fine. I would suggest you follow the recommendations to use the "slow" drip filter option and play around with the amount and grind until you find your preference. May also vary depending on the type of coffee/blend you're using.

I had the same question, but I'm just looking to cut down on time in the morning. I currently use a pint-size Chemex to brew 12oz. everyday and I am wonderfully pleased with the results. After reading these responses, I think I'll stick to this method and surrender my 5-10 minutes daily for a fine cup of coffee.
Determined to be a coffee geek and not a coffee snob.

I got the Technivorm coffee maker, makes great tasting coffee and I can use the stop drip when I make small amounts. I'm still experimenting with different grades of grinding and the filter setting. I'm very pleased so far!
