I use a French Press and a drip coffee maker. I currently have a blade coffee grinder. I'm told that a burr grinder is much better. Any recomendations on a economical one that would serve well for FP and drip coffee? Thanks.
Do read the reviews, but from personal experience and testimony from family I've given to as presents, the regular Baratza Maestro at around $100, or perhaps less at some sites, works fine for drip and French press. (Cheaper than the Plus model.)
I'm looking at getting the Capresso Inifinity too, once I've got the $90 for it. From my reading of the reviews it seems the best bang for the buck in an under $100 range.
I got my dad a Maestro last Christmas and it works great for drip. I just used it for press the other day and was very pleased with it on the coarsest setting.
EDIT: Oh and for the record, YES it's MILES better than any blade grinder!!! :) Baratza.com actually has a Maestro refurb for $63 at the moment.
EDIT 2: Oops never mind, I didn't realize that was you that just posted... congratulations on the Infinity!
Rjarsena, I have the same set-up for drip: Technivorm / Capresso Inifinity.
In case you're interested, here are my settings: I grind right between the "coarse" and the "medium" areas. That is, I set the grind literally on the empty black space between the white indicator grids. Took me a bit to get to that grind level, but I like the results.
Also, I use 1 level tablespoon of coffee for every 4 ounces of water - slightly less than the recommended 2 tablespoons/coffee for 6 ounces/water.
