I'm a budding coffee geek, but just haven't entered into the world just yet. I love good coffee, and I plan on getting a Chemex at home, since nobody drinks the stuff except me at home. However, my office wants to get a machine, there's only 6 employees so far. The budget is set at around $50 or so, and while I can deal with crappy coffee, if there is a machine someone could recommend at this price point, is easy to use, and brews generally good coffee I'm all ears!

I don't know if there is anything good in that price range for an office that brews good coffee at proper temps. I would not recommend the Presto Scandi because I don't think it's durable enough for an office setting.

Darn. How about anything decent, i.e. not coffee geek standards but not horrible either. If not I'll just go and grab something around that price range but if I can make an informed decision, all the better.

Joe,
Welcome to CoffeeGeek!
If your budget is stuck at $50, consider the Cuisinarts. My mother-in-law had about the same budget requirement and after conferring with many others, I gave her this same recommendation. She found the DCT-??? at Sam's for around $50.00 and it brews a respectable cup of coffee. It did a decent job brewing a Brazilian coffee that I roasted. I believe from the specs I have seen from other people, it does get to proper brewing temperature.
I am not stating that this is a FANTASTIC coffee maker, but my mother-in-law is happy and I am not an outcast!

Barry,
I noticed that you have some of those beautiful vac pots. Just how fragile are they? Feel free to email me if you wish ... just read my email address carefully.

hey thanks for the welcome and the suggestion. I guess I'll look for a cuisinart in the pricerange then. And then compare it to whatever I decide for the home.
