Arik, I think Bialettis are constructed primarily of aluminum. Coffee has acids in it, and it's my HO that an acid-aluminum combo might be something to consider avoiding. I've used Bodums (made of glass) for 15 years and think they're great. Easy to clean too. I haven't tried Bialetti; hopefully, someone will give you some feedback on them.

I agree with Kathy; you just can't go wrong with Bodum. I do use an aftermarket screen on my Bodum made by Swissgold, however, which is designed to filter better than the stock version. I'm not sure they're still available, but I do know you can buy nylon add-ons for Bodum presses that will certainly make a difference. Check out Sweet Maria's for several Bodum models and accessories.

One more vote for Bodum ... I love my Bodum Melior. I added the Swissgold filter which really reduces the hassle of cleaning it. The Bodum is my second press. It's way better than the cheapie I started with. Besides looking cooler, it keeps the plunger rod vertical better. The cheaper brands wiggle around letting grounds get past the filter.
I don't know about the Bialetti but I'd stay away from aluminium.

I don't share the general paranoia about aluminum. In the past 10 years it's been pretty well cleared of any villainy(at least to my knowledge) The Bialetti can make a fine cup, similar to,but not the same as espresso. For my own taste though, the presspot, along with the vacpot and the mocabrew, can't be beat. Barry

Bialetti stovetop pots, which do indeed make a fine cup, are available in stainless steel for a few bucks more than aluminum. It's well worth the slight increase in cost to buy stainless. I use both a Bialetti and a French press. They both produce excellent, but different, brews. Enjoy!
