Smoke alarms can be triggered by door dance depending how dark you let your roast go. Under a range hood with Behmor door closed during 1st 2 minutes of cooling cycle should keep the alarm from going off.

Remember that the Behmor has, in the chamber outlet, a smoke attenuator that draws around 500 watts and burns off most of the smoke.
I live in a condo with 2 smoke detectors. I run the range fan on 'low' and have never set them off. Nevertheless, you will still get the smell, which is like burnt toast, that dissipates in an hour or two.
WHEN you get the most smoke is at the point you go to 'cool'. Then the Behmor fan increases in speed and creates a positive pressure within the roaster. If your door seal is not great (mine isn't) you get smoke coming out around the door. While Behmor's normal outlet is at the rear, the door is at the front and that smoke does not get picked up by my range exhaust fan.
Now, I am a bit anal about that; my smoke detectors make a terrible racket. So I bought a small battery operated fan, which I place on the stove in front of the door, to blow that smoke back so the range fan can remove it. I run that fan only during cooling. A set of batteries lasts 6 months.

UPDATE: Got the behmor about 1 month ago. Still playing with it with 1/4 lbs batches. I roast every w/e. I had to skirt my range hood and put the roaster higher up to stop my hyper-sensitive smoke alarm go off. r0astmasters gave me 8lbs of different coffee. It's awesome to go in your basement and have such a choice at your fingertips... that's simply unprecedented, makes u feel like a king . For the carezza I use the single origins straight, but also as a mix with lavazza crema e aroma, gives it a new twist... one day I'll move up into making my own house blends;-) the posibilities are just endless Thanks everyone for the support, can\t be happier with the choice, for anyone still on the fence I highly recommend it... ...and of course thanks Joe for making it happen;-)
