Hi friends,

I'm new to roasting and I recently purchased a brand new Gene Cafe, but it is old stock and so has been in the box since 2007. As such, it does not come with the large chaff collector that is standard on the GCs now.

Do I need to buy the large chaff collector--either for the sake of roast quality or for the long term health of my GC?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

The main reason for the large chaff collector was that you could attach a metal hose to it and vent the roasting fumes/smoke outside.

Exactly. The small chaff collector works fine as long as you keep it clean. The main advantage of the big one is venting out a window.
