IMO, any roaster that needs 20-25 minutes to roast 2 lbs is unworthy.
The comment regarding a "nice alb roaster" makes a bit more sense, IF the reduction of charge in the drum actually allows a 16-17 minute roast, more or less.

i have inquired about this roaster with their USA importer and he stated that the actual roast times are 15-18 min.

does anyone see anything wrong with the 38RPM motor?  does that seem a bit slow?

I bought one.  It was delivered on Monday, and went for its maiden roast on Wednesday.  Today, 40 hours or so post-roast, the coffee was sufficiently rested for me to try the roast, vacuum brewed.

So far nearly all of the assumptions in this thread are not just wrong, but very frikkin' wrong.

If you want to talk to me about what it is and is not, there are threads already going at Chef Talk and Home-Barista, and I'd prefer to talk to you in either of those rather than add yet another one here.  No doubt the HB thread will get into more detail.  See you there.

You meant you bought ebay electric coffee roaster? Is that better? I found there is no cyclone and how about smoke?
I thought you should check this electric coffeer roaster as belows:

sesfinklbabyvox,

My machine, which is properly called an "Amazon Royal 1000," doesn't leak much smoke.  The smoke is effectively vented through the exhaust.  In any case, I roast outside.

There is no cyclone, chaff removal is excellent.

Thank you for suggesting that I look at the TJ-067.  Thank you for linking the HB thread concerning it, I'm already following it closely.

If you're interested in my experiences with the Amazon, please look at the HB thread I linked in my previous post.

I would say "bake" would definitely be the right term for a 25-30 min. roast!

Why bother speculating when you can simply ask?

My roast times for 500g run around 15min to onset of second crack, FC/FC+; and around 17min for 750g for the same roast level.  These times include dragging the drying phase out by around 30sec, and the interval between first and second crack by another 30 - 60sec, as compared to running the roaster as hot as it will go.  Neither size roast tastes baked, but the larger charges do show a little more of the roaster and a little less of the bean.

The sweet spot for the charge is probably in 600 - 700g.  But I'm still screwing around.

So far, I'm not using a BT thermocouple.  When I do, I'll post charts on HB .

I'm not roasting 1kg charges, but know someone who's a professional coffee roaster, who does them in his home Amazon.  According to Sean, his roast times run around 20 minutes, to rolling second crack, FC+, running full blast all the way.

The roaster is not perfect, but it's defects don't include being too slow.   If you've got questions, they're best answered in my thread on HB.

Wasn't trying to put down your machine BDL, sorry if it sounded like I was. I just found the other question/comment humorous. Glad your getting good results from your machine- I'll continue lurking on the HB thread.

No problem Ron.  And thanks for the explanation.  I figured your comment might have been tongue in cheek.

This thread is very frustrating.  Not because people are putting down the Amazon, but because there's so much speculation, so much confusion, so much conflation, and so little fact.

The answers to the most basic questions about the Amazon are coming out on the net, and my HB thread is just one resource.

As I said, the Amazon Royal 1000 is far from perfect, but once I understood the venting system -- which makes the roaster VERY responsive -- I started turning out consistently excellent 500 - 750g roasts.  Even without a BT readout I feel I have more control over things like sweet/bright balances than I did with 200g roasts in my fully modded HotTop.
