Sure. I disassemble my working machine about once or sometimes twice a year. Most all parts can be cleaned effectively with TSP or its equivalent. Mix a strong solution in hot water and soak the drum, the stainless outer shell, the front cover, etc. A stiff brush or scrubbing pad helps. wear gloves and eye protection. The plastic panels can be similarly cleaned. "303 Aerospace Protectant" restores the black plastic and the face of the control panel and protects it as well after cleaning.
How clean you can get it depends on how far you disassemble it (see below). See the Hottop USA website for detailed repair procedures that take you through the process step-by-step. Some of the screws used have changed over the years so pay attention to which come from where.

One of the things I learned from Joe Behm is that, when he was researching cleaners for the Behmor, he stumbled across the fact that Simple Green was first developed as a specialty cleaner for commercial coffee roasters. I know that after 5 years of regular use the interior of my 1600 is virtually spotless.

I have used Simple Green. There are areas in the Hottop that, depending on how long between cleanings, the baked-on crud is exceedingly hard to get off. SG will work on the basic areas like the front glass and the drum though. TSP would cost less for larger jobs like filling a 5 gallon bucket with enough to submerge the larger parts.
